1971年10月(yue)14日《紐約郵報(bao)》刊登了(le)一(yi)個故事，故事的(de)(de)名(ming)字叫(jiao)《回家》(Going Home)：長(chang)途車(che)(che)上坐著一(yi)位沉默不語的(de)(de)男子，在同車(che)(che)的(de)(de)年輕游客(ke)的(de)(de)盤問下終于開了(le)口。原來(lai)(lai)他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)剛從監獄出來(lai)(lai)，釋放(fang)前曾(ceng)寫信給妻子：如果她(ta)(ta)(ta)已另有(you)歸(gui)宿(su)，他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)也不責(ze)怪(guai)她(ta)(ta)(ta)；如果她(ta)(ta)(ta)還愛著他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)，愿意他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)回去(qu)，就在鎮(zhen)口的(de)(de)老橡樹上系一(yi)條(tiao)黃(huang)絲(si)帶(dai)；如果沒(mei)有(you)黃(huang)絲(si)帶(dai)，他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)就會隨車(che)(che)而去(qu)，永(yong)遠(yuan)不會去(qu)打擾她(ta)(ta)(ta)……汽車(che)(che)快到目的(de)(de)地了(le)，車(che)(che)上的(de)(de)人(ren)們都坐在靠窗戶的(de)(de)位上往外看(kan)，只有(you)這(zhe)位男子不敢(gan)張望(wang)，他(ta)(ta)(ta)(ta)害(hai)怕迎(ying)面而來(lai)(lai)的(de)(de)可(ke)能是失望(wang)……突然間，全車(che)(che)的(de)(de)人(ren)都沸騰(teng)起來(lai)(lai)：遠(yuan)遠(yuan)望(wang)去(qu)，鎮(zhen)口的(de)(de)老橡樹上掛了(le)幾(ji)十上百條(tiao)黃(huang)絲(si)帶(dai)，這(zhe)些黃(huang)絲(si)帶(dai)像歡迎(ying)的(de)(de)旗幟(zhi)迎(ying)風飄揚……

這個故事(shi)刊(kan)出(chu)不久(jiu)，很快就(jiu)出(chu)現了這首不朽的音樂作品。這個動人的故事(shi)被作成了歌(ge)曲 Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round The Old Oak Tree（老橡樹上(shang)的黃(huang)絲(si)帶），伴著歌(ge)聲這個故事(shi)也(ye)傳(chuan)遍(bian)了全世界。黃(huang)絲(si)帶也(ye)成了美(mei)國"歡(huan)迎被囚禁的人重獲自由"的標志。

實際上這首歌的(de)創(chuang)作背景并非(fei)流(liu)傳甚廣的(de)上述(shu)故(gu)(gu)事，而是來源于(yu)一(yi)首舊時民謠的(de)靈感(gan)，講述(shu)的(de)是一(yi)個南(nan)北戰爭時期的(de)戰俘將(jiang)要(yao)從南(nan)方軍(jun)戰俘營回家(jia)的(de)故(gu)(gu)事。而流(liu)傳的(de)犯罪者(zhe)返鄉(xiang)的(de)故(gu)(gu)事純粹是個幻想(xiang)。以(yi)下為創(chuang)作者(zhe)的(de)英(ying)語原(yuan)文。

This is "NOT" the story of a convict who had told his love to tie a ribbon book to a tree outside of town. I know because I wrote the song one morning in 15 minutes with the late lyrical genius Irwin Levine. The genesis of this idea came from the age old folk tale about a Union prisoner of war--who sent a letter to his girl that he was coming home from a confederate POW camp in Georgia.... Anything about a criminal is pure fantasy....
