紐(niu)伯(bo)瑞兒(er)童(tong)文學(xue)獎(jiang)（Newbery Medal），又稱(cheng)紐(niu)伯(bo)瑞獎(jiang)。1922年，由美國圖書館學(xue)會（American Library Association- ALA）的(de)(de)分支機構——美國圖書館兒(er)童(tong)服務學(xue)會(Association for Library Service to Children-ALSC)創設了紐(niu)伯(bo)瑞兒(er)童(tong)文學(xue)獎(jiang)（The Newbery Medal for Best Children's Book）。每年頒(ban)發一(yi)次，專門獎(jiang)勵上一(yi)年度出版的(de)(de)英(ying)語兒(er)童(tong)文學(xue)優(you)秀作品。
紐伯(bo)瑞(rui)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)文學獎（Newbery Medal），又稱紐伯(bo)瑞(rui)獎。1713年(nian)，紐伯(bo)瑞(rui)出(chu)生在英(ying)國農家。他(ta)(ta)是(shi)自學成才的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)文學作家和出(chu)版家。1744年(nian)他(ta)(ta)編寫(xie)并出(chu)版了世界(jie)上(shang)第一本專(zhuan)門的(de)(de)(de)、價格(ge)低廉的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)書——《美(mei)麗小書》；他(ta)(ta)開辦(ban)了世界(jie)上(shang)第一家專(zhuan)門的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)讀物印刷廠、世界(jie)上(shang)第一家專(zhuan)門的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)書店(dian)，從此他(ta)(ta)不斷改進，印刷發行了許多精美(mei)的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)圖書，深受(shou)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)喜歡，由于(yu)他(ta)(ta)打破當時保守(shou)的(de)(de)(de)風(feng)氣，崇(chong)尚的(de)(de)(de)“快樂至(zhi)上(shang)”的(de)(de)(de)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)教育觀念，開辟英(ying)美(mei)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)文學之路，所以后人稱紐伯(bo)瑞(rui)為——兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)文學之父(fu)，紐伯(bo)瑞(rui)的(de)(de)(de)貢獻(xian)對(dui)于(yu)兒(er)(er)童(tong)(tong)文學，可以說是(shi)個重要的(de)(de)(de)里(li)程碑。
為了表彰(zhang)和(he)紀(ji)念紐伯瑞在艱苦卓絕中(zhong)對歐美(mei)兒(er)童文學的開創之(zhi)功，1922年(nian)，由美(mei)國(guo)圖(tu)書(shu)館學會（American Library Association-ALA）的分(fen)支(zhi)機構——美(mei)國(guo)圖(tu)書(shu)館兒(er)童服務(wu)學會(Association for Library Service to Children-ALSC)創設了紐伯瑞兒(er)童文學獎（The Newbery Medal for Best Children's Book）。
這個(ge)獎(jiang)每(mei)年(nian)頒(ban)(ban)發一(yi)(yi)次，專門獎(jiang)勵(li)上一(yi)(yi)年(nian)度出版的(de)英語(yu)兒童(tong)文學(xue)優秀作品。每(mei)年(nian)頒(ban)(ban)發金獎(jiang)（Newbery Medal Award）一(yi)(yi)部(bu)、銀獎(jiang)（Newbery Honor Books）一(yi)(yi)部(bu)或(huo)數部(bu)。首(shou)屆金獎(jiang)由房龍的(de)《人類(lei)的(de)故事》獲(huo)得。這一(yi)(yi)獎(jiang)項設立以來(lai)，獲(huo)獎(jiang)作品的(de)規模(mo)和水(shui)準，已是(shi)舉世公認的(de)事實。
