據(ju)廟內元元統二年(nian)(1334)重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)碑記載,該(gai)廟創建(jian)(jian)于隋(sui)代,北宋初重(zhong)(zhong)建(jian)(jian)圣母殿,建(jian)(jian)中靖國(guo)元年(nian)(1101)重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)。明崇禎五年(nian)(1632)進行了(le)建(jian)(jian)廟以來規模大的一次維(wei)修(xiu)。清代乃至(zhi)民國(guo)年(nian)間亦(yi)多(duo)次修(xiu)繕。
廟座北(bei)向南,為一進院(yuan)。南北(bei)較(jiao)短,東西較(jiao)寬。前有山門(men)戲樓(lou),中為獻亭(ting),北(bei)為圣母(mu)殿(dian)。兩則配以(yi)耳殿(dian)。
東(dong)西院現(xian)存李靖(jing)王(wang)殿(dian)、三(san)宮殿(dian)、閻君殿(dian)、十帥殿(dian)、關公殿(dian)、子孫殿(dian)及梳(shu)妝樓(lou)等建(jian)筑(zhu)。殿(dian)宇錯落有致,殿(dian)頂形(xing)制(zhi)各(ge)異。廟南(nan)、北、西三(san)面(mian)懸(xuan)壁劈立,溝壑縱橫,東(dong)面(mian)與(yu)(yu)場院相連。山(shan)門(men)戲樓(lou)之(zhi)前(qian)為(wei)(wei)(wei)一條形(xing)平臺(tai),臺(tai)下(xia)為(wei)(wei)(wei)青石(shi)拱券的三(san)孔石(shi)窯,南(nan)向(xiang)排列,67級青石(shi)踏跺呈45°斜面(mian)壘砌(qi)(qi)而(er)上,可直達山(shan)門(men)。山(shan)門(men)門(men)洞為(wei)(wei)(wei)青磚拱券而(er)成(cheng),門(men)上出抱(bao)廈形(xing)懸(xuan)檐,筒板瓦裝修。既是(shi)裝飾構(gou)件,又(you)有遮雨避日(ri)之(zhi)功效。山(shan)門(men)門(men)道從戲樓(lou)底層明(ming)(ming)間開(kai)通(tong),底層兩次間為(wei)(wei)(wei)封閉式隔間。戲樓(lou)面(mian)闊(kuo)三(san)間,進(jin)深(shen)四(si)架椽,單(dan)檐歇山(shan)頂。圓柱方額,斗拱華麗,始建(jian)于北宋建(jian)中靖(jing)國年間。拜亭(ting)(ting)位(wei)居圣母殿(dian)與(yu)(yu)舞樓(lou)之(zhi)間。高臺(tai)筑(zhu)亭(ting)(ting),四(si)周青石(shi)壘砌(qi)(qi),東(dong)西南(nan)三(san)面(mian)出臺(tai)明(ming)(ming),設踏跺。亭(ting)(ting)面(mian)闊(kuo)三(san)間,進(jin)深(shen)五(wu)間,廡殿(dian)頂建(jian)筑(zhu)。亭(ting)(ting)內(nei)徹上露明(ming)(ming)造,梁架裝修等全部構(gou)件均為(wei)(wei)(wei)裸露。石(shi)柱圓梁,為(wei)(wei)(wei)原始材料砍制(zhi)后(hou)而(er)使用,尚保留元代建(jian)筑(zhu)風格。亭(ting)(ting)頂灰脊灰獸,筒板布瓦裝修。
這(zhe)種廡(wu)殿頂(ding)的建(jian)筑。圣母殿居拜(bai)亭(ting)之后,高臺筑殿,廣(guang)深各(ge)三間(jian),平面(mian)近方形(xing),單檐(yan)九脊(ji)頂(ding)。柱礎覆盆(pen)式,蓮瓣雕刻較大,檐(yan)柱側(ce)角(jiao)升起較為明顯(xian),梁(liang)架斗拱用材碩大,批(pi)竹式真(zhen)昂承托梁(liang)架負(fu)荷,五抹頭麻(ma)葉形(xing)隔(ge)扇,破直棱(leng)窗(chuang)(chuang)裝修,顯(xian)得十分古樸雄渾。殿頂(ding)滿覆琉璃脊(ji)獸,筒板(ban)布瓦、琉璃剪邊,舉折平緩。出(chu)檐(yan)深遠,四(si)翼而飛(fei)。雖經元、明、清(qing)歷代(dai)重修,仍不失宋(song)代(dai)建(jian)筑風格(ge)。東(dong)院梳妝樓,坐東(dong)向西,廣(guang)、深各(ge)三間(jian),二層四(si)檐(yan)支出(chu)平座,木制欄桿圍欄,四(si)面(mian)隔(ge)扇門(men)窗(chuang)(chuang)裝修,明間(jian)辟門(men),次(ci)間(jian)破直棱(leng)窗(chuang)(chuang),雕梁(liang)畫棟,玲瓏剔透。重檐(yan)歇山式屋頂(ding),華麗挺拔(ba),引人注目,是明代(dai)樓閣(ge)式建(jian)筑。其(qi)余殿宇多為三間(jian)面(mian)寬,懸山式形(xing)制,屬元明清(qing)時期的遺物。
廟內(nei)現(xian)存(cun)宋、元、明(ming)、清及民國年間(jian)重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)碑20余通,大(da)多豎立于拜(bai)亭(ting)之(zhi)內(nei)。碑文(wen)內(nei)容大(da)都記(ji)(ji)載了(le)創修(xiu)、增建(jian)及重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)廟堂的(de)(de)歷史沿革(ge)和主要事宜(yi)。值得引起重(zhong)(zhong)視的(de)(de)是(shi):宋、元、明(ming)、清四(si)朝(chao)建(jian)筑(zhu)集(ji)于一廟,國內(nei)現(xian)存(cun)的(de)(de)古代(dai)建(jian)筑(zhu)中(zhong)為數不多,實屬(shu)珍貴(gui)。二是(shi)北(bei)宋建(jian)中(zhong)靖國元年(1101)重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)碑中(zhong)記(ji)(ji)載,在宋代(dai)重(zhong)(zhong)修(xiu)圣母(mu)(mu)殿(dian)(dian)的(de)(de)同時(shi)就創建(jian)了(le)舞樓。這說明(ming)在宋代(dai)戲劇藝術和舞蹈藝術就已經發展(zhan)到了(le)一定的(de)(de)程度,并(bing)且與宗教文(wen)化的(de)(de)發展(zhan)結合在一起,互為依(yi)存(cun),共同發展(zhan)。記(ji)(ji)載戲劇舞臺的(de)(de)碑刻(ke),在我省及國內(nei)極為少見(jian)。目(mu)前所知除沁縣(xian)城內(nei)關帝(di)廟宋代(dai)建(jian)起戲臺的(de)(de)記(ji)(ji)載外,就數平順(shun)九(jiu)天(tian)圣母(mu)(mu)廟了(le)。三是(shi)獻(xian)亭(ting)作廡殿(dian)(dian)頂形(xing)制(zhi)的(de)(de)也(ye)尚(shang)屬(shu)少見(jian),這是(shi)超規模的(de)(de)設計與安排。九(jiu)天(tian)圣母(mu)(mu)廟,作為山西(xi)省重(zhong)(zhong)點文(wen)物保(bao)(bao)護(hu)單位之(zhi)一,具有重(zhong)(zhong)要的(de)(de)保(bao)(bao)護(hu)與研(yan)究(jiu)價值。
