據廟(miao)內元元統二年(1334)重修(xiu)碑記載,該廟(miao)創建(jian)于隋代,北宋初(chu)重建(jian)圣母(mu)殿,建(jian)中靖國元年(1101)重修(xiu)。明崇禎五年(1632)進(jin)行了(le)建(jian)廟(miao)以(yi)來規(gui)模(mo)大(da)的一次維(wei)修(xiu)。清代乃至民國年間亦多次修(xiu)繕。
廟座北(bei)(bei)向(xiang)南(nan),為(wei)一(yi)進院。南(nan)北(bei)(bei)較(jiao)短,東西較(jiao)寬。前有山門戲(xi)樓(lou),中為(wei)獻亭(ting),北(bei)(bei)為(wei)圣母殿。兩則配以耳(er)殿。
東西院現存李靖王殿(dian)(dian)、三(san)宮殿(dian)(dian)、閻君殿(dian)(dian)、十帥殿(dian)(dian)、關(guan)公殿(dian)(dian)、子孫殿(dian)(dian)及(ji)梳妝樓等建筑。殿(dian)(dian)宇(yu)錯(cuo)落有致,殿(dian)(dian)頂(ding)形制各異。廟(miao)南(nan)、北、西三(san)面(mian)懸壁劈立,溝壑縱(zong)橫(heng),東面(mian)與場院相連。山(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)門(men)(men)戲(xi)(xi)樓之(zhi)前為一條形平臺,臺下為青石(shi)拱(gong)券的三(san)孔石(shi)窯,南(nan)向排列,67級(ji)青石(shi)踏(ta)跺(duo)呈(cheng)45°斜(xie)面(mian)壘砌(qi)而上(shang),可直(zhi)達(da)山(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)門(men)(men)。山(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)門(men)(men)門(men)(men)洞(dong)為青磚拱(gong)券而成,門(men)(men)上(shang)出(chu)抱廈(sha)形懸檐,筒(tong)板(ban)瓦(wa)裝(zhuang)修。既是裝(zhuang)飾構件,又有遮雨避日之(zhi)功效。山(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)門(men)(men)門(men)(men)道從戲(xi)(xi)樓底層明間(jian)(jian)(jian)開(kai)通,底層兩次間(jian)(jian)(jian)為封閉式隔間(jian)(jian)(jian)。戲(xi)(xi)樓面(mian)闊三(san)間(jian)(jian)(jian),進(jin)深四(si)架(jia)椽,單(dan)檐歇山(shan)(shan)(shan)(shan)頂(ding)。圓(yuan)(yuan)柱方額,斗拱(gong)華麗,始建于北宋建中靖國(guo)年間(jian)(jian)(jian)。拜亭位居圣母殿(dian)(dian)與舞樓之(zhi)間(jian)(jian)(jian)。高臺筑亭,四(si)周青石(shi)壘砌(qi),東西南(nan)三(san)面(mian)出(chu)臺明,設踏(ta)跺(duo)。亭面(mian)闊三(san)間(jian)(jian)(jian),進(jin)深五間(jian)(jian)(jian),廡殿(dian)(dian)頂(ding)建筑。亭內(nei)徹上(shang)露明造,梁架(jia)裝(zhuang)修等全部構件均為裸露。石(shi)柱圓(yuan)(yuan)梁,為原始材料(liao)砍制后而使用,尚保(bao)留元代建筑風格(ge)。亭頂(ding)灰(hui)脊(ji)灰(hui)獸,筒(tong)板(ban)布(bu)瓦(wa)裝(zhuang)修。
這種廡殿(dian)(dian)(dian)頂(ding)的建(jian)筑(zhu)。圣(sheng)母(mu)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)居拜亭(ting)之(zhi)后,高臺筑(zhu)殿(dian)(dian)(dian),廣深各三間(jian),平面(mian)近方形,單檐(yan)(yan)(yan)九脊頂(ding)。柱礎覆(fu)(fu)盆式,蓮瓣雕(diao)刻較(jiao)大,檐(yan)(yan)(yan)柱側(ce)角(jiao)升起較(jiao)為明(ming)顯(xian),梁架(jia)斗拱(gong)用材碩大,批竹式真昂(ang)承托梁架(jia)負荷(he),五抹頭麻葉(xie)形隔扇,破直(zhi)棱窗裝修(xiu)(xiu),顯(xian)得十分古樸雄渾。殿(dian)(dian)(dian)頂(ding)滿覆(fu)(fu)琉(liu)璃脊獸,筒板布瓦、琉(liu)璃剪(jian)邊,舉折平緩。出(chu)(chu)檐(yan)(yan)(yan)深遠,四翼而飛。雖經元(yuan)、明(ming)、清(qing)歷(li)代重修(xiu)(xiu),仍不失宋代建(jian)筑(zhu)風(feng)格(ge)。東院梳妝樓(lou)(lou),坐東向西,廣、深各三間(jian),二(er)層四檐(yan)(yan)(yan)支出(chu)(chu)平座(zuo),木制(zhi)欄桿圍(wei)欄,四面(mian)隔扇門窗裝修(xiu)(xiu),明(ming)間(jian)辟門,次間(jian)破直(zhi)棱窗,雕(diao)梁畫棟(dong),玲瓏剔透(tou)。重檐(yan)(yan)(yan)歇(xie)山式屋頂(ding),華麗挺(ting)拔,引人注目,是明(ming)代樓(lou)(lou)閣式建(jian)筑(zhu)。其(qi)余殿(dian)(dian)(dian)宇(yu)多(duo)為三間(jian)面(mian)寬(kuan),懸山式形制(zhi),屬元(yuan)明(ming)清(qing)時(shi)期的遺(yi)物。
廟內(nei)現(xian)存宋(song)(song)(song)、元(yuan)、明、清及(ji)民國(guo)年間重(zhong)修(xiu)碑(bei)20余通(tong),大(da)多豎立于(yu)拜亭之(zhi)內(nei)。碑(bei)文(wen)內(nei)容(rong)大(da)都記載(zai)了創(chuang)修(xiu)、增(zeng)建(jian)(jian)(jian)及(ji)重(zhong)修(xiu)廟堂的(de)(de)歷(li)史沿革和主要事宜。值得引起(qi)重(zhong)視的(de)(de)是(shi)(shi):宋(song)(song)(song)、元(yuan)、明、清四朝建(jian)(jian)(jian)筑集于(yu)一(yi)(yi)廟,國(guo)內(nei)現(xian)存的(de)(de)古代(dai)建(jian)(jian)(jian)筑中(zhong)(zhong)為(wei)數(shu)不多,實(shi)屬珍貴。二(er)是(shi)(shi)北宋(song)(song)(song)建(jian)(jian)(jian)中(zhong)(zhong)靖國(guo)元(yuan)年(1101)重(zhong)修(xiu)碑(bei)中(zhong)(zhong)記載(zai),在宋(song)(song)(song)代(dai)重(zhong)修(xiu)圣(sheng)母殿(dian)的(de)(de)同(tong)時就創(chuang)建(jian)(jian)(jian)了舞樓(lou)。這(zhe)說明在宋(song)(song)(song)代(dai)戲劇(ju)(ju)藝(yi)術(shu)和舞蹈藝(yi)術(shu)就已經發展(zhan)(zhan)到了一(yi)(yi)定的(de)(de)程度,并且與宗(zong)教文(wen)化(hua)的(de)(de)發展(zhan)(zhan)結合(he)在一(yi)(yi)起(qi),互為(wei)依存,共同(tong)發展(zhan)(zhan)。記載(zai)戲劇(ju)(ju)舞臺的(de)(de)碑(bei)刻,在我省(sheng)及(ji)國(guo)內(nei)極(ji)為(wei)少(shao)見(jian)。目前(qian)所知除沁縣(xian)城(cheng)內(nei)關帝廟宋(song)(song)(song)代(dai)建(jian)(jian)(jian)起(qi)戲臺的(de)(de)記載(zai)外,就數(shu)平順九天圣(sheng)母廟了。三是(shi)(shi)獻亭作廡殿(dian)頂形制的(de)(de)也(ye)尚(shang)屬少(shao)見(jian),這(zhe)是(shi)(shi)超(chao)規模(mo)的(de)(de)設(she)計與安排(pai)。九天圣(sheng)母廟,作為(wei)山西省(sheng)重(zhong)點(dian)文(wen)物(wu)保護單位之(zhi)一(yi)(yi),具有重(zhong)要的(de)(de)保護與研(yan)究(jiu)價值。
