六(liu)殿(dian)卞城(cheng)王(wang)所管轄(xia)的(de)地(di)方是“大叫喚大地(di)獄(yu)(yu)(yu)及(ji)枉死城(cheng)”,另設十六(liu)小地(di)獄(yu)(yu)(yu)。凡世人忤(wu)逆(ni)不孝、怨(yuan)天尤地(di)、對北(bei)溺便涕泣(qi)者,發(fa)入此獄(yu)(yu)(yu)。查所犯事件,亦要受(shou)到(dao)鐵錐打、火燒舌之(zhi)刑罰。再發(fa)小獄(yu)(yu)(yu)受(shou)苦(ku),滿日轉(zhuan)解第七殿(dian),再查有無別惡。

據晚唐至五代時期(qi)道明和尚所(suo)撰(zhuan)《佛(fo)(fo)說十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang)經》記載(zai):佛(fo)(fo)在(zai)鳩尸那(nei)城阿(a)維(wei)跋提(ti)河邊娑(suo)羅(luo)(luo)雙樹間,臨涅槃時,為(wei)諸菩薩(sa)、摩訶薩(sa)、天龍神(shen)王(wang)(wang)(wang)、四大(da)(da)(da)天王(wang)(wang)(wang)、閻(yan)羅(luo)(luo)天子、太山(shan)府君、司命司錄(lu)、五道大(da)(da)(da)神(shen)、地(di)獄(yu)(yu)典官等授記說法。佛(fo)(fo)告大(da)(da)(da)眾(zhong)閻(yan)羅(luo)(luo)天子于(yu)未來世作佛(fo)(fo),多生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)習善(shan)為(wei)犯戒故,退落琰摩天中,作大(da)(da)(da)魔(mo)王(wang)(wang)(wang),管攝(she)諸鬼,科(ke)斷閻(yan)浮提(ti)內十(shi)惡(e)五逆一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)切(qie)(qie)罪人(ren)。勸眾(zhong)生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)造(zao)此(ci)經及諸尊(zun)像(xiang)以薦(jian)拔亡(wang)魂、七七修(xiu)齋(zhai)造(zao)像(xiang)以報父(fu)母恩,令得升天。人(ren)死后從頭七、二七直至七七,百日、一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)年(nian)、三(san)(san)年(nian),亡(wang)魂將(jiang)逐一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)經過十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang)殿(dian),亡(wang)人(ren)家屬須(xu)祈(qi)請十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang)作齋(zhai)修(xiu)福,寫經造(zao)像(xiang),便可拔除亡(wang)魂罪業,使(shi)之“不(bu)(bu)生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)三(san)(san)惡(e)涂(途),不(bu)(bu)入一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)切(qie)(qie)諸大(da)(da)(da)地(di)獄(yu)(yu)”,而往生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)天道。過十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang)若(ruo)闕一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)齋(zhai),則(ze)滯(zhi)在(zai)一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)王(wang)(wang)(wang),留連受苦一(yi)(yi)(yi)(yi)年(nian)。若(ruo)生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)人(ren)為(wei)己預修(xiu)七齋(zhai),于(yu)每月十(shi)五、三(san)(san)十(shi)日兩(liang)天持齋(zhai),供養三(san)(san)寶,祈(qi)設十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang),修(xiu)名納狀,奏上六曹,如此(ci)則(ze)死后可配生(sheng)(sheng)(sheng)快樂之處(chu),不(bu)(bu)住中陰四十(shi)九(jiu)日,不(bu)(bu)待男女追救命。(注釋:十(shi)王(wang)(wang)(wang)經是提(ti)到十(shi)殿(dian)閻(yan)王(wang)(wang)(wang)的(de)最早記錄(lu)來源(yuan),因資料不(bu)(bu)全(quan),卞城王(wang)(wang)(wang)的(de)來源(yuan)不(bu)(bu)明,但(dan)其(qi)中國本(ben)土化的(de)特征(zheng)很明顯)
據北宋時(shi)期沙門(men)常(chang)謹(jin)所(suo)撰《地藏菩薩(sa)靈(ling)驗記(ji)》卷29中云(yun):“沙門(men)智佑是西(xi)印度人(ren)也,天(tian)福(fu)年(nian)中(936~943)來自西(xi)(原文作(zuo)“來至(zhi)而(er)”),住(zhu)清(qing)泰寺(si),所(suo)持(chi)像經(jing)中,有(you)地藏菩薩(sa)變相并(bing)本愿功德經(jing)梵夾,其像相者(zhe)(zhe),中央(yang)圓輪中畫菩薩(sa)像,冠帽持(chi)寶錫,左右有(you)十王(wang)(wang)像各五(wu)(wu)人(ren),左五(wu)(wu)者(zhe)(zhe):一(yi)泰(秦)廣王(wang)(wang)、二初江王(wang)(wang)、三宗(宋)帝王(wang)(wang)、四五(wu)(wu)官王(wang)(wang)、五(wu)(wu)閻羅大王(wang)(wang);右五(wu)(wu)者(zhe)(zhe):一(yi)變成王(wang)(wang)、二太山王(wang)(wang)、三平等王(wang)(wang)、四都市(shi)王(wang)(wang)、五(wu)(wu)五(wu)(wu)道轉輪王(wang)(wang),一(yi)一(yi)各具司(si)命(ming)、司(si)錄、府(fu)君、典官等。
據明朝時(shi)期(qi)吳承恩所(suo)撰(zhuan)《西(xi)游(you)記》第(di)(di)五(wu)十(shi)八(ba)回(hui)二心(xin)攪亂大乾坤一(yi)體(ti)難修真(zhen)寂滅記載(zai):“大王(wang),背陰(yin)山上(shang),有兩(liang)個(ge)齊天大圣打得來(lai)也!”慌得那第(di)(di)一(yi)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)秦廣王(wang)傳(chuan)報與二殿(dian)(dian)(dian)楚江(jiang)王(wang)、三殿(dian)(dian)(dian)宋帝(di)王(wang)、四殿(dian)(dian)(dian)卞城王(wang),五(wu)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)閻羅王(wang)、六殿(dian)(dian)(dian)平等王(wang)、七殿(dian)(dian)(dian)泰(tai)山王(wang)、八(ba)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)都市王(wang)、九殿(dian)(dian)(dian)仵(wǔ)官王(wang)、十(shi)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)轉(zhuan)輪王(wang)。一(yi)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)轉(zhuan)一(yi)殿(dian)(dian)(dian),霎時(shi)間,十(shi)王(wang)會齊,又(you)著人(ren)飛(fei)報與地藏(zang)王(wang)。盡在(zai)森(sen)羅殿(dian)(dian)(dian)上(shang),點(dian)聚陰(yin)兵,等擒(qin)真(zhen)假。(注(zhu)釋(shi):大體(ti)意思是有真(zhen)假兩(liang)個(ge)孫悟(wu)空因(yin)為(wei)無人(ren)能夠分(fen)辨誰真(zhen)誰假,跑到陰(yin)曹地府(fu)請十(shi)殿(dian)(dian)(dian)閻王(wang)、判官和地藏(zang)王(wang)菩薩來(lai)分(fen)辨)
